One of the exciting things about my job is that I get to use a sellotape dispenser shaped like a big fish.
Sadly these are no longer available, and even a decent picture is hard to come by.

Oh dear. Yes, it must've occurred to the designers that it looked like an Ichthus fish, but of course you couldn't prove it was a religious symbol, though I can imagine people being silly enough to try. I'm not too surprised they don't make them any more tho.

It probably didn't occur to them - outside Christian circles, the Ichthus is a tad obscure. Maybe production stopped when someone realised...

Well, being designers, I thought they might be more likely to be familiar with symbols. And I get the impression it's better known in the US, the home of the car sticker - but that's just my impression. I dunno. It cheers me up on a dull day, anyway, seeing a big fat fish on my desk. No one in the office has mentioned it, tho they do do random things sometimes like singing "Shine, Jesus Shine!" - nothing to do with me tho.

Ah yes - talking of which, I was having lunch with some students at the Free Church College in Edinburgh once and made a joke about Graham Kendrick, and was met with blank uncomprehending looks. They just hadn't heard of him, cos of course they only sing the metrical psalms, without instruments. Ironically, the great hymn-writer Horatius Bonar was a minister of the Free Church of Scotland.

Horatius Bonar is just one of the best names ever. Almost as good as Augustus Montague Toplady.
